Summer in LOVE 2006 lunchtime entertainment at LOVE Park
The Fairmount Park Commission, along with the Office of the Mayor, is sponsoring the "Summer in LOVE 2006" concert series at LOVE Park, located at 16th and John Kennedy Boulevard, May 30-June 2 from 12-2 p.m. The event celebrates the reopening of the Fairmount Park Welcome Center and will include performers such as Kenny Sykes, Joe Damico, Nneka Best and Angel, and local singers, comics and actors. The old Philadelphia Tourism Center in JFK Plaza has been opened to the public for café-style seating. "Summer in LOVE" is a part of a summer series of events at JFK Plaza to increase the use of the park and get Philadelphia residents, Center City employees and visitors to the city involved in these events.
Global economy at Drexel forum
John Bruton, European Union ambassador to the United States, discussed the importance of the EU in the global economy at an event hosted by the Pennoni Honors College in the Anthony Drexel Picture Gallery, May 31. Bruton served as the prime minister of Ireland from 1994 to 1997 and helped restructure the country's economy into one of the strongest in the world. He also helped finalize the Stability and Growth Pact, which governs the management of the Euro. Before becoming ambassador in 2004, Bruton was a leading member of the caucus that drafted the European Constitution, which will soon be ratified.
Additional information for commencement ceremonies
Information on obtaining additional tickets for commencement ceremonies can be found on the University Relations Web site. The length of a commencement ceremony depends on the number of students receiving diplomas. A typical ceremony runs for about two hours. A speaker does not have a set time for giving his or her speech; however, guidelines are given to the speakers and other commencement participants.
