Spotlight on Volunteering is a weekly look at opportunities on campus for those looking to make a difference in the Drexel community. Public servants interested in participating in these events should visit http://www.drexel.edu/cce. New Jersey Tomato Festival
The Second Annual New Jersey Tomato Festival will take place Aug. 21 from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. in Camden. It will be an exhilarting day full of activities about the great red vegetable. Such activities include a tomato-throwing contest, farmer's market, samplings of tomato-based recipes from local chefs, an arts and crafts showcase devoted to the tomato and other delicious activities for tomato enthusiasts and tourists alike. For more information contact Erin Miller at (856) 854-4660. 20 volunteers are needed to serve at this event.
The Wissahickon Restoration
The Wissahickon Restoration is a grand piece of Philadelphia history in need of repair and help. Come out Aug. 21 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. to assist in cleaning up debris, refurbishing and restoring this Philadelphia icon. 10 volunteers are needed for this event. Casino Night at Maple Wood Manor
Maple Wood Manor is hosting Casino Night Aug. 22 and 29 from 6:45 p.m.-8 p.m. Four to six volunteers are required to help with the various casino activities and distribute prizes to the winners. An exciting and rewarding evening is in store for the seniors and volunteers. For more information contact Ruth El at (215) 365-3284 or (215) 913-9225.
American Postal Workers House
Two volunteers are required to come in and help the elderly and special needs residents by teaching them how to use email, Internet and letter writing skills. This will be a rewarding experience for both the residents and volunteers. For more information contact Valerie Christy at (215) 342-6270.
Bucks County Housing Group
Help the Bucks County Housing Group Aug. 25 as they assist the low-income families of Bucks County. Interact with the residents and take and retrieve their orders from the food pantry. For more information contact Barbara Chase at (215) 752-3200 or barbc@langhornepress.org.
2005 Tioga Unity Day Festival
The Ninth Annual Tioga Unity Day Festival, presented by Tioga United and its sponsors, will take place Sept. 17 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m at 20th and Ontario Streets. The festival will include games, rides, public information tables, contests, vendors and more! Volunteers will serve as grounds keepers and cooks as well assist with arts and crafts and other activities. Refreshments and information will be available to volunteers. However, some maintenance will be required for this event on Aug. 27 and Sept. 10. 20 volunteers will be needed to engage in tasks where they will have to lift up to 25 pounds or more.
