Among the other ventures taking place is the renovation of the Nesbitt Hall entrance, which, Katsaounis states, has been put on hold due to the fact that it was started under the former Dean of the College of Media Arts and Design, and a new Dean would have to be approved and input in setting priorities for the College and its facilities would have to be taken before this work can continue.
"The designing of new rexel Map Stands, which are exterior maps around campus, has been superceded with the new online interactive map. Guests of the Campus are more likely to use the online interactive map. The online interactive map also allows updates to be made more quickly and cost effectively. There are currently no plans to install new outdoor campus maps in the near future," Katsaounis said. The Gateway to Drexel project, according to him, is currently in progress. "Planning, Design and Construction are waiting for revised designs from architect Hargreaves Associates. The designs for the project will likely be completed this fall and construction to begin sometime after the winter term during spring."
According to Drexel's Planning, Design and Construction website, other vital reconstruction tasks include the renovation of the Education Center for the sciences, which is being overseen by Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Dr. Donna Murasko. "There will be a seminar room with updated audio/visual, computer and 'Smart Board' technology to be used for both department seminars and small classes for Physics, Chemistry and Biosciences/Biotechnology." Murasko also stated that the new center will have three offices devoted to advising Bioengineering and Bioscience Department majors (Biology, Environmental Sciences, Nutrition and Food Science).
Another important project is the Facade Investigation plan at the Academic Building, where restoration work in currently underway to secure the cornice on the building as well as the steel frames behind it and the terracotta due to age and rusting.
