As a center for higher learning, Drexel University has imposed a series of rules and policies to help ensure the health and well-being of its students. These policies can be divided into two main groups: the consumption of drugs and alcohol and the health of students.

The University's alcohol policy, which is separate from University Housing's alcohol policy, generally follows the laws set forth by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The possession, use, or distribution of alcohol by underage persons is a violation of the alcohol policy along with disorderly conduct resulting from being under the influence of alcohol. Other violations include providing alcohol to underage persons, possessing alcohol in an open container in public areas and possessing bulk contains such as beer kegs or balls. Students should also know that if the above violations occur off-campus, they will be subjected to the University's judicial processes regarding the alcohol policy. Punishment includes, for the first violation, disciplinary probation for one year, alcohol education and parental notification. The second violation extends probation and adds deferred suspension from residence halls, substance abuse referral and non-residents being banned from the residence halls. The third violation may result in suspension from the University.

The University Housing's policy pertaining to alcohol, which applies in residence halls, has additional regulations. Non-residents of the residence hall are not permitted to enter the building with alcohol, regardless of age. Alcohol consumption by residential students over the age of 21 is limited to non-public areas, that is, it can only be consumed in a student's room with the door closed. Consuming alcohol in a room with the door open is prohibited.

Anyone over 21 living in the residence halls are required to fill out an alcohol policy acknowledgement form and register any alcohol beverages they bring into their room. Residents are fully responsible and legally accountable for their actions of themselves and their visitors. Empty alcohol containers or paraphernalia, even those used for solely decorative purposes, such as empty beer bottles, handles, funnels or shot glasses, are not permitted in residents' rooms. Any of these items or unopened alcohol may be confiscated and disposed of if found.
