If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their Gulags, or some mad regime--Pol Pot or others--that had no concern for human beings.
Senator Dick Durban, (D. - Ill.), during debate on the Senate floor. Many from the Republican party, along with various Democrats, decried his comparison of U.S. military policy to that of the regimes of Stalin and company. Durbin tearfully apologized days later after refusing to do so several times.
"Today the Court abandons this long-held, basic limitation on government power. Under the banner of economic development, all private property is now vulnerable to being taken and transferred to another private owner, so long as it might be upgraded -- i.e., given to an owner who will use it in a way that the legislature deems more beneficial to the public -- in the process."
Sandra Day O'Connor, Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, in the dissenting opinion released Thursday that gave the government the right to seize private property to replace with another private property. Now, Eminent Domain has been expanded so the government does not have to show public use for the land.
"This is disturbing behavior on the part of self-professed animal lovers, and I hope the public takes notice. PETA raked in nearly $29 million last year alone, but apparently it couldn't spare any money to care for the flesh-and-blood animals entrusted to its employees. It's ironic -- If anyone else were caught red-handed with 31 dead dogs, PETA would be holding a press conference to denounce them."
David Martosko, (D - Calif.), Director of the Center for Consumer, responding to an incident where employees for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed 31 adult dogs and puppies, then trashed the bodies in a dumpster. Martosko has helped launch PETAkillsanimals.com.
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but are they hoping that one of these guys from the G8 is on a quick 15 minute break at Gleneagles [Scotland] and sees Annie Lennox singing Sweet Dreams and thinks, 'F-ck me, she might have a point there, you know?'
Noel Gallagher, guitarist for the band Oasis, claiming Live8 concert will have no impact on the world leaders who attend the G8 summit. Live8 is a concert behind held simultaneously in several countries to push for debt relief in Africa.
