Fashion Week: Spring 2005 landed center stage in the striking Crystal Tea Room of the Wannamaker Building on May 25 night. The audience's excitement, along with the soft, bronze ambience of the room and the bright green Drexel Fashion Show 2005 panels, set the stage for the show to begin. After a gracious introduction, reflection, and thanks by Fashion Program Director Renee Weiss Chase, the guest commentator, Kate Burns, began the show.

The first collection, "Hip Hop Design," featured a prize-winning collection of vivid colors and fabrics. It included an amazing floor-length leather/fur coat and swimwear in an eclectic mix of sheers, metals and elaborate cut-away suits. The menswear collection highlighted a looser, "vacation-wear" pant and layering of pieces and patterns. Sexy, form-fitting knit dresses completed this collection. The tailoring collection displayed classic and pristine, yet modern and fluid lines. A gorgeous floor-length green and cream overcoat made spectators wish for cold weather, and the tailored dresses danced into the mod era with the ornate beading and sparkle of a fairytale.

Next, "The Little Red Dress" collection featured corsets, fabric drapery, ballooning trains, glowing fur, and daring plunge necklines. In eveningwear, knee-length and flowing, spring-like, "toga" gowns gracefully perused the runway in florals, pale pink, and mint green.

The individual student showcases paraded the matchlessness and superiority of the University's Fashion Program. An adorable layered children's collection in denim, hot pink, and floral patterns set the stage for the youngest models to steal the hearts of the crowd. Another children's collection was a wedding collection that gleamed in Victorian-era style, with winged tuxedo jackets, corsets, intricate embroidery, and a dash of sparkle. Other collections included a turquoise, apple green, and white fifties cotton resort-wear collection, which featured crisp, walking shorts, comfy weekend sundresses, floppy straw hats, sun umbrellas, and a cool keyhole swimsuit. A Gothic-inspired collection demonstrated angled lines, flared hems, and high collars and hues, which mimicked the radiance of stained glass, in sportswear for women and men. In a Betsey Johnson-ish collection, the student designer utilized fun, whimsical concepts in crochet and bright, punchy colors.
