The Office of Research and Graduate Policy hosted Drexel's seventh annual Research Day April 26. The event, which was held in the gym of the Daskalakis Athletic Center, consisted of 450 posters and displays covering both graduate and undergraduate research in the fields of medicine, science, business, art and design, and the humanities.
Later in the evening, a reception and awards ceremony took place at the Main Building. A total of fifteen cash awards of $500 were given out to the six best graduate and undergraduate presenters, one post doctoral presenter, one resident, and one technician. Along with these, more awards were given out by the Dean's of all the colleges represented at Research Day.
Two weeks ago, the College of Arts and Sciences held their Research Day, and many of the CoAS presentations were brought over to this week's Research Day. The CoAS presentations were strictly done by poster, but this week, a number of presenters incorporated computers into their presentations and had demonstration hardware on hand.
Despite the variety of different categories, the majority of projects were in the fields of applied sciences and emerging technology.
It is true that the humanities and business presentations were more numerous this year than previous years, they did little to shake Drexel's reputation as a school who's primary focus is engineering and science.
Projects in the Creative Arts and Design category numbered less than half of last years total.
Overall, about two thirds of the projects this year were presented by graduate students. A total of 100 undergraduate projects were on display, along with a handful of faculty, post-doctoral, resident/fellow, and medical presentations.
