Get Away from Me is the 2-CD debut album of Nellie McKay. On the album, McKay displays her full prowess as a performer, exploring different styles of music, like jazz and cabaret, with her strong and versatile singing and piano-playing. On "The Dog Song," she proclaims the simple joys of having a pet within a sophisticated, swinging musical framework. On the flip side of the simplicity of dog ownership is "Sari," a quirky, cynical, comically political torrent of words and layered sounds. If you ever had the urge to express all of your sarcastic thoughts by breaking into song the way people do in musicals, this is the album for you. If you get the chance to see her perform like, take it. This album will be the perfect appetizer. She is even more ironic and irreverent (while maintaining professionalism, of course) in person.
