Local author to speak on varied cultures

Nimisha Ladva, assistant director of the Writing Center at Bryn Mawr College, will read from her book Good Girls Don't Stare: Growing Up Indian Between Two Worlds April 14 at 12:30 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge on the sixth floor of MacAlister Hall.

The College of Arts and Sciences' department of English, philosophy and program in international area studies is sponsoring the event.


Job fair to be held on Center City Hahnemann campus

The Health Sciences Career Fair will be held April 11 from 12-4 p.m. in the New College Building Geary Lobby.

Local healthcare-related employers will be at the fair to meet with prospective employees and interested students.

The Steinbright Career Development Center recommends that students dress professionally and bring copies of their resume when visiting prospective employers.


Drexel students achieve honors at City Six Run

Three Drexel University students were among the top winners at the American Heart Association's City Six 5K Charity Run held March 20.

Dave D'Addario came in second place in the Male Overall category with a time of 17:18.

In the Male Age 20-29 category, Michael Jacobs achieved first place and Brandon Mance won second place honors. Their times were 18:18 and 18:51 respectively.

The City Six 5K Run featured students from Drexel, the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, Villanova University, St. Joseph's University and La Salle University. Proceeds from the race benefited the American Heart Association.


Successful leadership topic of CEO workshop

Creating Excellent Organizations will host Joel Karczewski, senior manager of institutional systems for the Vanguard Group, for a workshop highlighting successful leadership skills.

Karczewski is scheduled to cover values, strategies and skills that have made leaders successful. He will also invite participants to explore their own leadership styles and the skills taught at Vanguard's corporate leadership training school.

The workshop will be held April 11 at 6 p.m. in MacAlister Hall room 2020.


Poetry readings celebrate National Poetry Month

The Drexel University Writing Program and Magnificent Minds will host "In Celebration of Poetry" April 13 at 4 p.m. in the Faculty Club Reserve Section on the sixth floor of MacAlister Hall.

The program will feature poetry readings from poets Tomaz Salumon, Joyelle McSweeney and Sabrina Mark. A book signing reception will follow.


Night of culture and fine dining slated in U. city

The University City District is sponsoring "Second Fridays" in Powelton Village April 8 from 5-11 p.m.

Various art galleries and cafes will be open for the night in Powelton Village.

Photo Gallery West, located at 3625 Lancaster Ave., exhibiting "Drexel Designs: Community & Connections," exhibiting Drexel student and faculty work and exploring the impact design has on the City of Philadelphia. Admission is free.
