Have you ever wondered what it would be like if the characters from the Mega Man universe were turned upside down? What if it was Dr. Wily and his cadre of robots who were the agents of good and Dr. Light and Mega Man who were the agents of evil? No? Not even once? Well, now you don't even have to wonder just to humor me, because Mike Renner has created such a topsy-turvy alternate dimension with his Web comic In Wily's Defense.
Located at http://www.incomprehensibility.com, In Wily's Defense is normally updated Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Right now, not counting guest comics, there are 259 installments of the comic showcasing the trials and tribulations of Dr. Wily. In this comic, which is non-canonical to the Mega Man series, Wily is not an evil genius, but a Twinkie magnate who's fired all the workers in his Alaska factory and replaces them with robots he creates. He has a lesbian daughter, Amy, who creates a robot on her own. There's a problem though. Dr. Light, who instead of being a benevolent scientist who wants to use robotics to help people like in the game, is a rival snack cake manufacturer in Megalopolis and doesn't quite like that Wily's butting in on his territory. He thusly sends Mega Man off to kidnap Wily's daughter, and hilarity ensues.
There are several familiar faces from the Mega Man series for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Cut Man, Pharaoh Man and Plant Woman (derived from Plant Man, but made feminine because he's the most feminine looking robot in the series) are the main protagonists. Cut Man is the first robot created by Wily, and he's also deliciously dumb with a propensity to get his scissors stuck in precarious places. He also can't go 10 minutes without making a reference to pop culture. Pharaoh Man is the last surviving robot of Dr. Cossack's family. His brothers were wiped out by Mega Man, and he was charged with saving the Wilys from Dr. Light's assassin flip-top robot Eddie. Plant Woman is Amy's robot. She's pretty powerful, but she also has an annoying habit of calling everyone "Uncle."
