Five students were robbed at gunpoint on the eve of March 7.

The students, four males and one female, were sitting on benches at a park near the corner of 35th Street and Powelton Avenue when they were approached by three black males of median height and build at 11:43 p.m.

A hand gun was aimed at the head of a male student and all five were ordered to give up all their belongings and get on the ground, face down, according to an incident report from the Department of Public Safety. The students complied with their assailants' demands.

The gunman then approached one of the male students and pistol whipped the back of his head. Instead of doing the same to the female student, she was slapped in the face, stating that the assailant did this because she was a girl.

Taking the victims possessions with them, the assailants fled north on 35th Street, heading toward Baring Street. Meanwhile, the victims ran toward their residence, Kelly Hall, and alerted the front desk who contacted Public Safety.

Philadelphia Police Department officers were contacted by Drexel Dispatch, as was the Philadelphia Fire Department. The police broadcast the description of the suspects, and began a search of the immediate vicinity, however no suspects were reported fitting the assailants descriptions.

One victim was bleeding profusely from the head wound and was transported to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania for treatment. The other four were transported by police to Southwest Detectives for further investigation.

Among the items stolen were a cell phone, keys, Drexel ID's, cigarettes, a lighter, wallets and car keys. The female stated that she had money on her person, but the suspects failed to find it.

Drexel Dispatch contacted HUP regarding the condition of the student, however the on-duty nurse refused to give any information other than the student was admitted to a room at 3:45 a.m.

The assailants are described as three black males, two wearing black hooded sweat shirts and one wearing a grey hooded sweat shirt. One of the assailants had a beard.
