Department of Public Safety announces precautions
In light of several assaults on campus, the Department of Public Safety led by Executive Director Bernard Gollotti has released a list of precautions to take to reduce the chances of becoming a victim to being attacked.
1. Avoid poorly lit and less traveled areas.
2. Stay on the beaten track; do not take shortcuts through alleys
3. Know your environment.
4. Use public transportation whenever possible.
5. Change direction, cross the street, go to nearest building.
6. Avoid provoking the crowd.
7. Use emergency phones placed around campus to report suspicious activity
8. Report activity immediately to the Philadelphia Police Department
9. Report activity immediately to the Department of Public Safety
10. Report any crime you are a victim of immediately.
Gollotti states that there are no pattern to the attacks and no one group is suspect.
Final Annual Allocation Information Sessions held
The final information sessions for the 2006 fiscal year have been held by SAFAC, with the last one occurring March 3. Organization's attendance at one of the sessions was mandatory by either the president or the treasurer. Sigma Phi brother wins trip to Greece
Matthew O'Neill, a junior majoring in digital media was selected for the fraternity's annual Quest to Greece scholarship.
O'Neill was one of 16 undergraduates across the nation to win the honor. He will spend two weeks studying Greek philosophy and Greek history first hand in the European country.
All expenses will be paid by the Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation, which instituted the program four years ago.
Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded Nov. 1, 1901 at the University of Richmond and was Pennsylvania Beta Beta chapter of the organization was charted at Drexel Oct. 19, 2002.
Ethics and Stem Cell Transplantation discussion
The Drexel University College of Medicine and Hahnemann University Hospital will sponsor a discussion on the ethics of stem cell transplantation on March 23 from 8:30 to 10: 30 a.m. Taking place in the New College Building's Greary Auditorium, it will feature Arthur Caplan as a guest speaker, with Allan Schwartz moderating the event. University faculty participating in the discussion include Abhay Dhond, Laird Jackson, Yasha Kresh, Constance Perry and Ralph Petrucci.
The event is free and open to the public. To get to the Center City campus from the Main Campus in University city, students can take the Drexel shuttle that stops outside Nesbitt Hall.
Graduate Information Sessions registration
Registration for graduate information sessions can be found on a link on the University's home page. The event will take place March 12, with an on-site registration from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the actual event taking place from 12 to 2 p.m. It will take place in the Graduate Admissions Office in room 222 of the main building.
