After a big come-from-behind non-conference win at Ball St. on Feb. 19 they Dragons needed to continue their solid play back in the Colonial Athletic Association.
In the first half, the score stayed tight for most of the way as Drexel tried to find a way to contain the Patriots Jai Lewis inside. Lewis scored 31 points in first meeting between these two teams.
He then scored eight first half points and looked to be a dominant presence while forcing Drexel's Sean Brooks into foul trouble.
"[Lewis] had 31 points in our first game," men's basketball head coach Bruiser Flint said. "We'll take 14 points from him."
The other Drexel seniors, with help from Bashir Mason, overcame the strong play of Lewis to decide the game late in the first half.
Jeremiah King and Phil Goss each hit a three-pointer late in the half two give the Dragons breathing room and then as time expired, Mason converted on an acrobatic layup to put his team 36-28 going into the break.
That lead was too hard to overcome for the Patriots and strong play by Drexel's Kenell Sanchez sealed the deal for the Dragons. Two late rebounds and a blocked shot proved to be key in keeping the Dragons lead late in the second half.
"Kenell's always going to give me effort," Flint said. "I know I don't have to worry about that."
Chaz Crawford had a solid game on the defensive end finishing with 13 rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Mason recorded a double-double with 12 points and ten assists.
The Dragons finish off their home schedule, Feb. 26 when they host Delaware at the Daskalakis Athletic Center at 2:00 p.m.
