Help Inner-city kids
AmeriCorps members are involved in volunteer recruitment for the Youth Golf and Academic Program and currently has volunteer opportunities for student organizations and individuals. YGAP seeks to even the playing field between disadvantaged children and their more advantaged peers.
They do this by providing inner city children with a supervised environment during after school hours when juvenile crime rates peak, supporting academic and social development of children through homework support, literacy activities, academic enrichment and recreational programming as well as committing to provide these services free of charge to children from the time they are referred as kindergartners until they enter the fifth grade.

Volunteer Tax Preparer
Get involved in the country's largest anti-poverty campaign. Help low-income, working families receive the tax credits they deserve. The Earned Income Tax Credit is a refundable tax credit for low-income families, enabling them to earn up to $4,008 in tax returns. This return of $4,008 for a working family not only puts food on the table, but also insures heating over the winter and provides a sense of stability.
Many families have their taxes filed at private tax preparation firms that charge exorbitant fees for tax preparation.
Help process taxes for working families for free and put money back into their pockets. To become a volunteer tax preparer, volunteers must undergo 16 hours of training by the Internal Revenue Service and receive IRS certification. Volunteers must also be comfortable with computers since all filing is done via computer.
Furthermore, they should be familiar with taxes. This opportunity is sponsored by Campaign for Working Families. If interested, contact Amy Anderson, Assistant Director, at 215-665-2544.
Donate to Habitat for Humanity ASB Trip
Attention Freshmen with remaining Flex dollars. Rather than let the remaining Flex dollars on the meal plan go away or spending it all frivolously, consider donating some of that money towards Habitat for Humanity Alternative Spring Break trip.
Eight volunteers will be traveling to Minnesota during Spring Break to build a house for a family in need.
These volunteers currently are fundraising for the trip and would greatly appreciate any help. Consider buying snacks, two liter bottle cola and other non-perishable items. For more information e-mail diana@drexel.edu.
