Spotlight on Volunteering is a weekly look at opportunities on campus for those looking to make a difference in the Drexel community. 'Hearts on Fire' dance hosted
Circle K and National Society of Collegiate Scholars are hosting the 'Hearts on Fire' dance Feb. 12 from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. in Behrakhis Grand Hall. A portion of ticket prices will go towards the tsunami relief fund. The dance will include a three course meal, live musical performance and a DJ. It's a great way to spend a Saturday night and take out a date at a reasonable price all the while giving to charity. Look on campus for fliers regarding pricing information and ticket locations. National Collegiate Global Women's and Human Rights
Join student leaders in the women's rights, anti-slavery, anti-globalization, human rights, peace, and environmental movements April 9-11 for the Feminist Majority Foundation's National Collegiate Global Women's and Human Rights Conference. The conference will feature keynote speakers from national human and women's rights organizations as well as workshops on a variety of issues highlighting the interconnectedness of feminist and human rights issues. Sex trafficking, sweatshop labor, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, women as weapons of war, and the exploitation of the environment are a few of the many topics that will be covered during the conference. This Conference is for all progressive students who are involved in any or all of these progressive issues. Service Organization Summit and Community Service
The Service Organization Summit is the council of student organizations dedicated to fostering a student movement that thoughtfully addresses the challenges we face as a society through community service and social action at the University. SOS does this by promoting the community service activities of individual student organizations on campus, providing and coordinating opportunities for student organizations to collaborate on community service activities and by educating and raising awareness about global community issues by initiating campus wide programs and events. The community service organizations that make up SOS include: Circle K, Habitat for Humanity, Greens' Ideas, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Amnesty International, Alpha Phi Omega and Tech Serv.
Valentine's Day Dance at Senior Citizen Home
Volunteers are needed to serve dinner and engage in dancing for the senior citizen's Valentine's Day dance at Carousel House Feb. 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For more information contact Jessica Andersen at 215-898-6702 or andersel@ac.upenn.edu.
Book Club at Retirement Home
Come read to senior citizens at this book club in West Philadelphia. Bring a book and get ready to read to these eager seniors who are no longer able to read. Contact Linda Thomas at 215-751-4998 or linda1108@verizon.net.
