he Campus Activities Board is currently hosting its annual LoveFest 2005, a series of events that have a Valentine's Day theme from Feb. 9 to 14.
"CAB is pleased at the wide variety of events we have organized and hosted for the Drexel University students," Assistant Director of Lectures, Fine Arts and Diversity for CAB Erica Place said. "Many of our events have been sold out as a result of peoples' interests."
CAB began LoveFest Feb. 9 by hosting its kickoff event. Students were able to make teddy bears for someone special and had the opportunity to play Quizzo from 7-9 p.m. in Ross Commons.
"While the event was a great success we unfortunately had to turn away many people because we could only accommodate so many people," Place said.
However, she assured each student who was turned away that CAB will host this event again after Valentine's week and it will still be free to the public.
Charisma Coach Mary Gardener was the main event on Feb. 10 in the Van Rensselaer Ballroom from 6-8 p.m.. She provided a presentation on what CAB described as an "entertaining look on dating and relationships."
"This event was to help people look more attractive and irresistible to fellow peers," Treasurer for CAB Amruta Gore said.
"She also talked about reality television and its failure to form long-lasting and meaningful relationships."
There will be dinner and dancing Feb. 11 once again in the Van Rensselaer Ballroom. Students picked up their free tickets by stopping by the CAB office. Tickets sold out very fast, Gore said. Ballroom dancing will start at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m.
There will also be the weekly Friday night flick but it will be shown at a later time, 8 p.m. in the Faculty Club lounge located on the sixth floor of MacAlister Hall. The later show, however, will be shown at the regular 11 p.m. time.
Students will also have the opportunity to see the Philadelphia 76ers play in the Wachovia Center Feb. 12 and visit New York City to see the live Broadway showing of STOMP Feb. 13. The cost is $15 per person and bus transportation will be provided.
The culminating event in the LoveFest 2005 series will be the Philadelphia Orchestra's Valentine's Day performance of "In Love with Shakespeare" Feb. 14. "Tickets for this event were sold out very quickly and we noticed that many of these people are singles," Place said. Students were asked to pay $3 for one and $5 for two tickets.
Additionally, CAB has also taken the initiative to promote healthy relationship education in preparation for Valentine's Day Events by including workshops such as a "Feeling Risky" workshop for Drexel Athletics.
"We have been very busy helping student leaders create entertaining and educational sexual responsibility programs," Health Educator Tiffany Gallagher said.
"Our goal is to promote healthy relationships, provide valid scientific information, suggest safer ways to enjoy Valentine's week, and ultimately decrease high-risk sexual behaviors among students."
