In a few short days, a great chapter in Philadelphia's history will be written. Two teams will stand face to face on the gridiron, poised to strike at each other with the fury of not simply 11 men, but two entire cities. Thunderous applause and cheers will echo from coast to coast as they engage each other in combat. This is the SuperBowl, and as the Editorial Board, we want Drexel's home team to win.
Having said that, we are applauding the efforts that the University is taking to encourage the spirit behind the beloved Eagles and the fact that events, such as recent pep rallies, are bringing the campus together and making students not simply commuters or residents, but citizens of Philadelphia. For the freshmen out there who have not yet heard the call, we ask you to embrace what it is to be in the city of Brotherly Love and root our Eagles on to victory.
As you read this, two Drexel professors and physicians are doing their part, staying in Jacksonville to ensure that our team is in top notch shape for their upcoming game. We applaud these efforts and are proud of both them and the University for doing more than is required of it in to support the Eagles.
Even with the rallies and the actions of its professors, the University is doing even more. While we may all be at respective SuperBowl parties with friends and family, there are some students who will be left out, far from the comforts of a big screen TV and their comfy leather chair. For them, Drexel has decided to make Ross Commons the nexus of Eagles fans, offering four sharp, crisp screens to view the game, door prizes, a wing eating contest and many more items to eat, drink and enjoy.
While some of us may be at other places when the first kick is heard around the world, we know that those watching on 13" screens will be thanking the Commuter Assistants, Office of Commuter and Off-Campus Programs and Services, Student Union Operations and Drexel Dining Services. It appears that multiple parts of the campus community have pulled resources together behind one common goal. It is our hope that this spirit does not die down when the game ends, but that it lives on past this momentous occasion and becomes embodied and ingrained in future events, making the campus a better place for all.
Perhaps there is no greater battle that will be fought this Sunday than two symbols of American freedom, the Eagles and the Patriots. These two forces will lock horns and will grip millions around the nation and the world as they watch the epic struggle from both sides. Yet when the dust clears, and the clock runs out, we want to see the mighty Philadelphia Eagles coming home with nothing but the best. E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!
