Moshe Kam, a Robert Quinn Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was elected as IEEE Vice President for Educational Activities and Chair of the Educational Activities Board.
The world's largest technical society, IEEE comprises more than 360,000 members spanning 150 countries. The EAB develops various educational programs to help ensure technological literacy of pre-college students and also provides accreditation services to colleges and universities.
Prior to becoming IEEE VP, Kam served as Director of Region Two, Eastern USA, for IEEE and functioned on the Board of Directors. He has also served on the Regional Activities Board, the board of IEEE-USA as Chair of the Audit Committee and the Philadelphia Section. He became an IEEE fellow in 2001.
Kam believes that every "professional (and every professional in training) should help in strengthening the scholarly, educational and standardization activities that these associations support." He also serves as the co-ordinator and is one of the professors for the sophomore level of the Drexel Engineering Curriculum, commonly known as tDEC. In addition, he has founded and developed the Data Fusion Laboratory at the University.
He hopes that his work for the IEEE will enable Drexel to strive to be known for its engineering education in the same way that other Ivy-League colleges are famous for their respective departments.
