Registration forms for seminar in Israel to be completed by Feb. 7
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Division for Communities and Jewish Projects is hosting the 12th annual Young Jewish Leadership Diplomatic Seminar March 22 - April 1.
The program's purpose is to enhance the relationship between young Jewish leaders and the State of Israel. The seminar's topics include national security, economy, culture and society, Jewish life in Israel, Israel-Diaspora relations and other central issues.
Participants are responsible for their airfare to and from Israel, but not responsible for board, lodging, excursions and othercosts. Applications must be completed by Feb. 7. Registration forms can be found at http://Philadelphia.mfa.gov.il.
Designer of Pearlstein Building Passed Away
Philip Johnson, designed of the LeBow College of Business Leonard Pearlstein Business Learning Center died Jan. 25. Johnson was world-acclaimed architect and designed the AT&T Building in New York City, the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif., and the Transco II and RepublicBank Towers in Houston among many others.
Some of his awards included the 1950 Silver Medal from the Architectural League of
New York for the design of his New Canaan, Conn. Home, the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects in 1978 and in 1979 he became the first recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Johnson was 98 years old.
Drexel football head coach passes away
Head coach of the Drexel football team and assistant professor of finance, Thomas Grebis, died Jan. 24.
Grebis graduated from Drexel in 1954 with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering. He earned his MBA with a finance concentration in 1969. Grebis served as headcoach from 1961-86. He had a winning percentage of .615, which is the second highest percentage in Drexel history. As part of the class of 2004, he was inducted into the Drexel Athletics Hall of Fame.
In 2003, he retired having served the Drexel community for more than 40 years. His wife, Mary, children Thomas I. and Bryan R. and stepchildren Meghan and Robert Dugan survive him. Memorials in his name may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, One Plymouth Meeting, Suite 250, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.
Materials Engineering to host seminar Feb. 1
As part of the Alan Lawley Seminar Series sponsored by the department of materials science and engineering, Dr. John F. Rabolt from the University of Delaware will speak on "Active and Adaptive Polymer Micro - and Nanofibers for Tissue Engineering and Remote Sensing Applications" at 1:45 p.m. Feb. 1.
The seminar will be held in the LeBow Engineering Center Hill Seminar Room and is open to all Drexel students, faculty and staff. For more information visit http://www.materials.drexel.edu.
