"We had a decent turnout for the fall elections which generally produce a smaller turnout than spring elections with over 220 votes," USGA President John Doughery said. "We are glad that students took part in the process that chooses the student that will be their voice to the University administration."
The majority of the election was held online, though there was a single paper ballot submitted at the box located in the Dean of Students Suite.
Of the eight positions available, there were only six contested positions.
In the election for the four senators at large positions, two incumbents, Micha Garrett and Alexandra King retained their positions. Nithin Michael and Jessica Bozarth won the remaining positions.
Most candidates submitted a speech stating their stance on issues and what they would do if elected. College of Business Senator-elect Rhena Garcia wrote, "As a senior in the college of business, I have the experience from the past four years to help every student in the LeBow College of Business. I can help all business students with my vast knowledge of the inner-workings of Drexel. Throughout my time here in LeBow, I have had extensive contacts with the administration of the college of business. This is beneficial for me as your representative in the student government, as well as for you and your interests."
Stacy Rose, Resident Student Senator-elect said, "As a second year resident, I understand your concerns with housing, because they are or were my concerns too. I can't promise to fix everything or to change your dorming experience to the point where all your friends are envious and kicking themselves because they didn't come here. But I can promise to make it better where I can. If elected, I will always be willing to hear any feedback, complaints, or concerns held by any of the residents and reconcile the ones that I can. For the ones that I can't fix, well, I'll try to ease your mind as best possible."
The race for Commuter Student Senator and Freshmen Class Senator were uncontested, with Ramalingam Sundaram and Sabaa Dam winning both respectively. The election also saw the approval of an amendment to the USGA Constitution for the inclusion of an honors college senator. The position was lost earlier in the year when the USGA's working constitution was proven invalid and the organization had to revert back to a previously existing constitution.
New members will be sworn in at the next bi-weekly USGA meeting Nov. 15, Dougherty said.
With the elections held mainly online, there was some concern about server problems and voter authentication disrupting the election. Those fears proved unjustified though.
"There were no problems with IRT," USGA Election Chair Jason Cziraki said.
Cziraki also serves as the Co-op and Career Services Senator.
