Structural proteins seminar

The School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems will host "Micromanipulation: Nanomanipulation and Self-Assembly Limits in Structural Proteins," Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. in Disque 108.

Bradley Layton, Drexel assistant professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics, will speak at the seminar. Admission is free and open to all students, faculty and staff.

Spotila writes book on sea turtles

James Spotila, L.D. Betz Chair Professor of Environmental Science, has published the book Sea Turtles: A Complete Guide to Their Biology, Behavior and Conservation through Johns Hopkins University Press.

The illustrated book gives a comprehensive account of the evolutionary history of sea turtles, their physiology, life cycle and behavior.

The book covers seven different turtle species and explains conservation activities.

Royalties from sale of the book will benefit the Leatherback Trust, and organization that helps conservation efforts for several species of sea turtle.

Pennoni wins ABET Fellow

Drexel Trustee Chuck Pennoni received a 2004 Fellow Award from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology at the society's recent Nashville meeting. ABET is the recognized accrediting body for college and university level programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology.

The ABET Fellow is given to those who have served the organization through related professions and have supported the organization's educational activities.

Pennoni was the organization's president from 1998-99 and is currently a member of their Industry Advisory Council.

Winterfest

The University City District and University of Pennsylvania's Class of 1923 Ice Rink will host their seventh annual Winterfest Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m.

Admission is $1, and skate rentals are free. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own skates should they have them. If a skate rental is needed, it is advised to show up at least 30 minutes before the event starts

Paula Cohen book signing

Magnificent Minds, a lecture series sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Life and Administrative Services and by Barnes and Noble, will present distinguished professor of writing Paula Marantz Cohen signing her new book, Much Ado about Jessie Kaplan 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Westphal Picture Gallery, located on the third floor of the Main Building.

Cohen's novel will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be served in accordance to Jewish dietary laws.

IWHL honors Marion

The Drexel University College of Medicine's Institute for Women's Health and Leadership will present their Marion Spencer Fay Award to University of Washington School of Medicine professor of medicine and genome sciences Mary-Claire King Dec. 3 at the Philadelphia Pyramid Club.

King's work focuses on the genes that affect the development of breast cancer, and she has also provided much assistance to victims of human rights crimes.

The event is free, but a reservation must be made to Meghan Burnett at 215-842-6013.
