From the makers of Finding Nemo and Toy Story comes the latest Pixar/Disney film of a family of superheroes known as The Incredibles. Mr. Incredible (voiced by Craig T. Nelson) and his wife Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) enjoy an exciting life of fighting crime and saving people's lives on a daily basis. However, after a series of trivial lawsuits against these crime-fighters, superheroes all over are banned from using their powers. They are forced to retire and lead normal lives amongst regular humans. After fifteen years of hiding as an insurance claims agent, Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) is eager to get back into his super suit. Things look disastrous for Bob as has been fired from his job, has neglected taking care of his three children, and has trouble controlling his super-human strength in public. Unexpectedly, circumstances change as a mysterious woman offers Bob a top secret assignment for a large sum of money. With nothing to lose, Mr. Incredible sports his uniform and flies to an undisclosed island only to fall into the traps of a sharp new foe named Syndrome. It is now up to his family to save Mr. Incredible and in doing so, save the world from the evil plans of their adversary.
The Incredibles is no doubt an entertaining movie for people of all ages. The computer generated animation is nothing short of spectacular as the creative and vibrant characters are almost as three dimensional as their personas. The characters are given a realistic, human appeal while still maintaining their cartoon-like qualities. If you have seen the teasers, you would notice Mr. Incredible supports a growing belly and Elastigirl a sizeable rear-end providing some comical appeal to the plot. Several scenes poke fun at Mr. and Mrs. Incredible's lack of figure which is a change from seeing the lean and fit superheroes normally identified in comic books.
The movie combines witty humor with non-stop intrigue: I did not even realize almost two hours had passed by at the end of the film. If you are not smiling from the artistic genius of the film, you will be smiling from the witty scenes that saturate the plot. Some memorable scenes include Edna Mode's (the fashion guru for the superheroes) justification to Mr. Incredible, explaining why a cape on a superhero is just not feasible. Also memorable is the scene where Elastigirl gets stuck between two sliding doors while fighting a number of armed guards.
