The Halo 2 Multiplayer game is sweet.

Anyone who argues otherwise, for any reason, is wrong. The game had a lot of hype behind it, veritable dumptruck loads of hype backing up to the metaphysical driveway of gamers all across the world. That, however, is not a failing of the game itself. If you bought into the hype and thought that this game was going to revolutionize the entire videogaming experience and you were then disappointed, you have no one to blame but yourself.

So, ignoring the hype and the insane conjecture that went on before the game was released, here are the facts: a round of Halo multiplayer is equaled in the 'enjoyability' category only by Blades of Steel, the classic game for the original Nintendo which, despite its simplicity, has consistently outperformed all others since the dawn of the video age.

The graphics for most things are substantially better in Halo 2. They're succulent, like a Thanksgiving turkey for the eyes, which needs merely to be drenched in the gravy of a few comrades and then devoured. There's only so much you can do to terrain; polygons and bitmapping, no matter how well done, are still polygons and bitmapping. Only the pickiest gourmet should be upset, however, and most other things, such as the player models, weapons, and vehicles are visual smorgasbords as delicious as they are tempting.

One of the best improvements is that you can use any vehicle in the multiplayer mode, depending on what map you're on. Nothing beats cruising around in (the now much slower) Scorpion Tank, obliterating those among your friends too slow or too unlucky to find a rocket launcher. The best of the vehicles, though, the naked woman dancer hiding inside the cake, is the Banshee. The Covenant's most feared air vehicle is now available on multiplayer some maps.

There's absolutely nothing, nothing I say, better than air-to-air combat against intelligent human enemies. The air-to-air combat against the Covenant soldiers in the original game was a bit lacking, but the weakest part (the AI) has been removed an replaced with a person at the end of the controller. If you were ever addicted to the Tribes I TAC gametype, breathe a sigh of relief: your electronic methadone has arrived.
