The men fought hard throughout the game with 19 shots from George Mason and eight shots from Drexel-however, the game remained scoreless until overtime thanks to the hard work of goalies Jim Greco of Drexel and John O'Hara of Mason.
Within the first three minutes George Mason tried to steal the show with an eruption of shots from a corner kick, but Drexel stood their ground with two blocks from Mike Hines and Tim Mochan as the last line of defense.
Also from the goal line, Greco made two saves while being bombarded by Mason in order to keep the Patriots off the board. During the second half of the game, the tables turned on George Mason when Dominick Balsamo made a defensive clear off an unsuspecting Mason defensive player. Freshman Jack Przednowek followed the ball for a face off with George Mason goalie, but it was deflected by a precise dive by O'Hara.
Joe Banks scored the winning goal in an intense double overtime period assisted by Balsamo in the 109th minute of play. Drexel's defense was short two starters, however, Greco took on the strength of the missing men with his incredible performance against Mason.
Greco had eight saves, broke nine corner kicks, and this was his third shutout of the season and 12th of his career. This win against George Mason could potentially bump the Patriots out of the CAA playoffs depending on Towson's game against Virginia Commonweath.
The Dragons lost to Hofstra 2-0 Nov. 4, but due to time contraints, coverage of this game was not available.
