I picked up this CD for two reasons, one being because it was $9.99 for a two-disc compilation of several great bands.
The second, and main reason, was the title: Rock Against Bush Vol 1. What better time to be reading about such a CD? This is a compilation of bands who, as stated on the CD, "...have come together for one reason, and that's to express our outrage-and form a unified front against-the dangerous, destructive, and deadly policies of George W. Bush and his administration."
This two-disc compilation was put out by Fat Wreck Chords, and includes bands such as Epoxies, Authority Zero, Jello Biafra with D.O.A., RX Bandits, Strike Anywhere, Pennywise, Denali, and Social Distortion.
The compilation also includes previously unreleased/rare tracks from None More Black, Sum 41, Alkaline Trio, Anti-Flag, Against Me!, The Offspring, The Get Up Kids, Rise Against, Ministry, Descendents, The Soviettes, Strung Out, The Ataris, The World/Inferno Friendship Society, The Frisk, NOFX, and Less Than Jake featuring Billy Bragg.
The music on this CD is mostly punk, and to really appreciate the lyrics, its best to follow along with the songs printed on the CD insert. This proved to be a very interesting and thought provoking little booklet. It begins with a little writing from Fat Mike of Fat Wreck Chords, ranting about Bush and his administration.
The pages to follow have the bands on the compilation shown, including the poetic and truthful lyrics of some of the songs. This also comes fully equipped with lists entitled, "20 Reasons to Hate Bush Jr.," and "20 More Reasons to Hate Bush Jr."
The CD also has clearly stated that the compilation is not about making a profit, but about making a difference.
It is not about "Let's be punk rock and hate the government," but about "Let's be punk and change the government."
Also, it's not about who's a sellout and who's more punk, but about uniting against a common enemy.
All in all this is a great thing to go buy, or at least take a listen to before Tuesday; it is a lot of great music, great lyrics, and great messages.
GO VOTE!
