Attention, owners of Dell laptops. On Oct. 8, Dell, working with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled 4.4 million AC adapters.
Theses adapters can overheat, causing fire or electric shock. Dell has received seven complaints of overheating; one customer received a minor burn.
The defective adapters were sold between Sept. 1998 and Feb. 2002 with Dell Latitude, Inspiron and Precision models.
On the back of the adapters, the manufacturer's name, Delta Electronics, and either "P/N 9364U", "P/N 7832D", or "P/N 4983D" appears.
The easiest way to check if you have a defective adapter is to visit http://www.delladapterprogram.com.
If you have a malfunctioning adapter, Dell will replace it free of charge.
