CoE hosts barbecue
The College of Engineering and the Undergraduate Student Government Association are sponsoring a barbecue Sept. 30 for all engineering students. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Quad.
The event aims to promote the existing professional undergraduate student engineering chapters across campus, to encourage existing engineering organizations to become more involved in campus activities, to communicate the good of the CoE to current and incoming students, to help develop leadership skills, to promote resources where students can get involved in research opportunities and to give CoE students a chance to enjoy themselves.
Snoozebox and the John Reilly Band are scheduled to play at the event.
Gogotsi joins WAC
Yury Gogotsi, professor of materials science and engineering and director of the Drexel Nanotechnology Institute, was recently named to the World Academy of Ceramics. The WAC is an international professional organization based in Italy. The group consists of scientists, engineers and artists working in the field of ceramics.
Gogotsi was one of 22 new members elected this year. He was selected in the science class.

CoE school remodels
The School of Biomedical Engineering's bioinformatics program, led by Aydin Tozeren, was reorganized as Center for Integrated Bioinformatics.
The center's research focus will be the systems approach to bioinformatics, a system where the information at the gene, protein, cell, tissue and organ levels is integrated and interpreted for early detection and accurate diagnosis of complex diseases. The center will continue to develop projects and proposals with partner academic units and regional collaborators, such as the Greater Philadelphia Bioinformatics Alliance.
