In an effort to continue to improve the men's basketball program at Drexel, the Athletic Department signed head coach Bruiser Flint to a multi-year contract extension June 20. The length of the contract has not been disclosed.

Flint, a two-time Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year, has led the Dragons to two straight second place finishes in the conference and an overall record of 51-37 in his three years at the school. Flint's record in CAA play is 36-18.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to remain at Drexel," Flint said. "I feel we have built a strong program over the past three years, and I am confident that we will continue to excel both on and off the court in the future."

After leaving The University of Massachusetts in 2000, Flint signed a four year deal to become the head basketball coach at Drexel.

Before signing his new contract, Flint had one year left on his existing contract.

"We've been talking about this since the end of last season," Flint said. "But I had to deal with some personal issues before we could make it official."

Flint, a native of Philadelphia and alumnus of St. Joseph's University, mourned the death of his father, James Flint, earlier this year. James Flint has been his son's, and the Drexel men's basketball team's, number one fan since the day Bruiser arrived in University City. Playing the season without his father by his side will be something different for Flint.

"It won't be the same," Flint said. "I'll be just trying to go about business the same way I do every year."

The men's basketball team, which finished second in the conference last season, only lost one senior to graduation and will have the main core of the team back playing in the 2004-05 season. With expectations the expectations there, Flint understands the importance of this season to Drexel Basketball.

"We have a great group of guys on our team and I know everyone's expecting us to do well," Flint said. "We will just have to go out and play basketball."
