Two Drexel students, Juan Zubieta and Shammah Sulouff, were eliminated in the past two weeks in the "Yo! A Cook's Off!" competition.

The event, which gives 12 students the opportunity to win a job at the City Tavern and a vacation to Jamaica, is in its final four weeks.

"They are excellent chefs; I have high hopes for these students," said Walter Staib, City Tavern owner, chef and judge of the cook-off.

Four students from The Art Institute of Philadelphia and The Restaurant School are currently left, with no Drexel students remaining. There are only four weeks left until the final cook-off, which will be held May 3 at City Tavern. Finalists will be given two hours to prepare a first course and entree for 20 people.

Students have no idea what they will cook or what ingredients will be given to them ahead of time. Walter Staib prepares a "mystery basket" consisting of assorted ingredients. Each student has 15 minutes to think about what they are going to make and write it down on a sheet of paper. Then they are given one hour to concoct a first course and entree for one person.

The judging is based on many appeals such as taste, creativity and presentation. Each week, Staib eliminates a student and gives an explanation as to what they did wrong to cause themselves to be removed from the contest. Drexel students Shammah Sulouff, Juan Zubieta, Jeffery Maust and Ashley Hess did an impressive job competing in this highly challenging, aggressive cook-off contest, Staib told The Triangle.

"These students surpassed my expectations; by day one I was impressed," he added.
