The Drexel crew teams made their presence felt on the Schuylkill River as their season came to an end with the Dad Vail Regatta May 8-9, the largest collegiate regatta in the country. The women's varsity eight boat placed fifth, while the Dragons' best outing of the day was from the men's lightweight four, who placed fourth in its grand final.
Two programs; two different paths; two NCAA Tournament bids; and unfortunately, two first-round losses for the Colonial Athletic Assocation. Hofstra and Cinderella Villanova, who represented the CAA in the NCAA Tournament, both had their 2009 season ended in the round of 16, as they were defeated by top-seed Virginia and No.
Since 1953, the Dad Vail Regatta has been a rich Philadelphia tradition. As the largest collegiate race in the United States, the Dad Vail races attract a variety of universities and colleges from around the country. This year, the race's 71st installment, over 100 different collegiate crew programs from the United States and Canada competed in the two-day event.
