Former New York City mayor and presidential candidate, Rudy Giuliani, will be addressing the first graduating class of The Earle Mack School of Law May 27. The commencement of the inaugural class will be held at The Kimmel Center. The Associated Press reported there will be 160 graduates from the school and Giuliani is also set to receive an honorary degree.
Three construction projects will be completed by the start of fall 2009, according to James Katsaounis, the executive director and senior vice president of Student Life and Administrative Services at Drexel. Katsaounis said Millennium Hall, which began construction in April 2008, is "on schedule" to be completed by August 2009, with students moving in the following month.
A crew of four first-year Drexel University College of Medicine students will leave for Cameroon July 6 to volunteer on a team with Georges Mbwelle, a Cameroonian surgeon who treats and educates the natives of his country. Molly McStravick, Ethan Payne, Ashley Tyrrel and Zach Masi will make the 37-day trip, which begins with a flight to Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon.
Fraternity and Sorority Life held its annual awards banquet May 11 in Behrakis Grand Hall. Over 50 awards were given to both chapters and individual students throughout the evening. Highlights include the naming of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Delta Zeta Sorority and Delta Phi Omega Sorority as the recipients of the Dean's Cup for their respective councils.
Second Annual Pi Kappalooza benefits three charities The brothers of Pi Kappa Phi will be hosting their second annual Pi Kappalooza May 16 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Pi Kappalooza will feature five bands: El Fuego, The 5th Floor, The Static Jacks, Southern Fried Funk and Boomfantasy Band of Dreams.
The Formula Hybrid club at Drexel placed third in the Third Annual International Formula Hybrid competition May 4-6. In what took place at the New Hampshire Speedway, 29 teams from across the world, including teams from Canada, Russia and India, competed with self-designed hybrid-powered racecars.
In response to a changing real estate climate, Drexel University's Goodwin College of Professional Studies created a new degree program that will begin fall 2009. "Our College's Customized Learning Solutions team worked closely with national and regional real estate associations to create the curricula for these programs, which respond to the industry's need for university-educated property management professionals," Ann Solan, director of Multidisciplinary & Emerging Programs at the Goodwin College of Professional Studies, said.
Roxana Saberi, an Iranian-American journalist, was released from prison in Iran May 11. "I'm of course very happy to be free and with my parents again," Saberi said in front of her Tehran apartment building May 12. Saberi's sentence for spying was reduced from eight years, allowing her to leave the country, and she had denied the charges.
