Perhaps the men's lacrosse team was still reminiscing about its must-win victory over rival Delaware to reach the Colonial Athletic Association tournament because it seemed as though the Dragons weren't present against Towson in the conference semifinals. Seniors Andrea Peterson, Nicole Hester and Brooke Cornish stood 15 rows up in the bleachers at the Daskalakis Athletic Center, hands on the attached strings that waved high above them, ready to unveil the respective banners of both the women's basketball team's 2009 Colonial Athletic Association championship and NCAA tournament appearance.
It's safe to say that the St. Joe's women's crew team has not only been dominant this season, but the past two seasons as well. This season, it won the San Diego Crew Classic, in which Drexel placed 13th, along with capturing the Atlantic-10 Championship two weekends ago.
Senior Kate Hynes and first-year graduate student Andrea Peterson not only excelled on the field, but also the classroom as well. And for their outstanding efforts in both areas, Hynes and Peterson were named winter sports Colonial Athletic Association Scholar Athletes.
The Drexel women's softball team finished its home season with a 6-11 record in the CAA, and a 23-19 mark overall. The Dragons were led by junior all-star catcher Ashley Botelho. The women's lacrosse team's season came to and end April 25 with a 10-18 loss at the hands of CAA rival Hofstra. Drexel finished the season with a 0-7 record in the CAA, and was 8-9 overall. It started the year off extremely strong, winning eight of its first nine games, all of which were non- conference.
