Men's lacrosse team prevails in must-win game to reach CAA Tournament

Never quit. Never give up. Never surrender. That's just the mantra the Drexel men's lacrosse team choose to stick with, even after dropping its first three games in the Colonial Athletic Association. But while the Dragons started off on a downward trend, they began peaking at the right time, just as Head Coach Chris Bates would've wanted it.

It's a rare task for any collegiate crew team to compete in three races within a four-hour time span, but that is exactly what the Drexel women's varsity eight boat did April 18. The Dragons placed third at both the Kerr Cup and the inaugural Colonial Athletic Association championship, hosted by Drexel on the Schuylkill River.

Lawson gets ace in championships

The weekend of April 17, the men's golf team finished ninth in the CAA championships. The Dragons were led by freshman Andrew Lawson, who recorded the tournament's only hole-in-one as well as the first in his lifetime. "It was a shock. I was not expecting to do it on that hole [12th] because that hole cost me a few strokes on the first two days," Lawson said.

With a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association playoffs hanging in the balance, it seems only fitting that the Drexel men's lacrosse team would have to face bitter rival Delaware for the right to extend its 2009 season. The Dragons (6-7) go into their highly anticipated game with the Blue Hens (5-9) April 26 at Vidas Field needing a victory in order to secure a top-four seed and a guaranteed spot in the conference's postseason tournament.

Softball sweeps Penn, W. lax wins on Senior Day

Softball Sweeps Penn to Snap Losing Streak Drexel snapped its five-game losing skid as it swept rival Penn in a doubleheader at Drexel Field April 22. The Dragons (22-16) took game one in exciting fashion, winning 6-5. The Quakers (12-27-1) had runners on first and second in the top of the seventh inning with Drexel holding a one-run lead.

Thomas signs with D.U.

The Drexel men's basketball team officially filled out its 2009 recruiting class after guard Derrick Thomas inked his national letter of intent to play for the Dragons. Thomas, who attends St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C., averaged 15 points, six rebounds and 3.
