Captain Christopher Ferguson attended a campus rally and held a lecture Feb. 19 in celebration of his role in commanding the Endeavour space shuttle mission in December 2008. At the rally, which was held in the Great Court of the Main Building, Ferguson spoke briefly to an audience that included Drexel University students and faculty as well as approximately 300 local high school students.
Drexel University has become the first university in the country to commit to using "Green Globes," the Green Building Initiative's independent environmental impact monitoring system. "Green Globes is more than a monitoring system; it's an environmental design and assessment tool," Mark Rossolo, director of state and local outreach for the Green Building Initiative, said.
Jennifer Rosato, dean of Student Affairs of the Earle Mack School of Law, has accepted deanship at the Northern Illinois University College of Law and will leave Drexel June 30. At Drexel, Rosato served as acting dean of the College of Law from July 2006 to April 2007.
Drexel Democrats and University of Pennsylvania Democrats co-hosted an open forum with four of the democratic candidates for Philadelphia District Attorney Feb. 16. Candidates Michael Turner, Dan McElhatton, Brian Grady, and Seth Williams participated in the forum.
Paul Hodkinson spoke about the relation of youth culture and new technology in his lecture, "My Space or Out Space? Youth, Identity and Social Networking Sites," Feb 16. Hodkinson, senior lecturer of the department of Sociology at the University of Surrey, focused on the private space on the Internet such as MySpace and Facebook and how it connected to one's identity.
The College Anonymous Confession Board has replaced JuicyCampus, an online gossip site that officially shut down Feb. 5. JuicyCampus had included over 500 campuses nationwide, receiving more than a million visitors each month. The site shut down for financial reasons.
The Undergraduate Student Government Association hosted the second Leadership Luncheon featuring John Cooke, assistant dean of campus engagement, to discuss his leadership approach to Drexel, Feb. 17. Cooke provided the audience with an acrostic mnemonic device of L.
Drexel's Public Relations Student Society of America and the Iris Organization hosted a free speed-reading workshop Feb. 19 in the Campbell Auditorium. The workshop focused on advancing reading techniques to improve speed and comprehension through drills and practice exercises.

Drexel University's Engineering Week kicked off with the 15th annual Egg Glide competition in the Great Court of the Main Building. This year 32 teams participated and the greatest height for the egg glide, 34 feet, was reached. "The dean wanted it to be more challenging for the engineering students," Elizabeth Brachelli, spokeswoman for the College of Engineering, said.
The fifth annual career fair for Engineers Week was held Feb. 17 at 30th Street Station. The fair, which hosted 95 employers, including Johnson & Johnson and Amtrak, also attracted over 400 students through the day. Due to the high volume of students and employers present the career fair was held for the first time outside of campus from its previous location in the lobby of Bossone.
Capt. Christopher Ferguson will be honored as the 2009 Engineer of the Year at a dinner hosted by the College of Engineering Feb. 20. The invitation-only ceremony for Ferguson, alumni, faculty and staff will take place at the Rittenhouse Hotel. Elizabeth Brachelli said the main focus of the event is to honor Ferguson and also to give award to faculty, staff and vey distinguished alumni.
The Drexel University chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers hosted the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge Alumni Dinner as part of Engineers Week Feb. 16. According to Austin Wong, senior environmental engineering major and ASCE vice president, the invitation-only event included a social hour, followed by the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge student presentations.

Drexel Engineers Without Borders, Drexel Green and the Drexel Sierra Club co-hosted "For Love of Water," a documentary examining universal access to clean water. "Engineers Without Borders is involved with a lot of water projects in the world and the movie is about scarcity of water and about how to get water to everyone, not a solution movie but a movie about the problem," Prineha Narang, president of EWB, said.
