Gabriela Marginean has always been known for her scoring prowess. But it was what she did on the defensive end in the women's basketball team's home opener that had everyone on their feet. Marginean scored a game-high 35 points and drew a crucial charge to halt a late St.
The Battle of 33rd Street might have been won, but Drexel is still at war with the Big 5. Prior to Penn's visit, no city team had played at the Daskalakis Athletic Center since 1992 when the Dragons hosted St. Joe's. Not exactly a stat that amuses Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint.
By now, there is a good chance that you know what school won the "Battle of 33rd Street" between Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania. You may know that Drexel and Penn both shot horrifically from the free throw line, the field and the three-point line.
Even though the Drexel field hockey team did not make the NCAA Tournament despite having its best season in Drexel history, its players were rewarded with monumental awards. Three players were chosen to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association First Team All-Mid Atlantic Region Team.
The crew team made major headlines Nov. 19 with its announcement that Drexel University has entered into a 50-year lease, including two 20-year renewable options, with the historic Bachelors Barge Club located on the Schuylkill River Boathouse Row. Beginning in July 2009, the Drexel crew program will be rowing out of the oldest rowing club in the nation.
One team lost its best player from last season, while the other has one of the greatest players in Drexel history. One team shot 53.1 percent from the free throw line in its first game this season, while the other is shooting 84.6 percent from the charity stripe in two games thus far.
