Clinton to make appearance in Main Building

Sen. Hillary Clinton will appear on Drexel's University City campus April 11 for an event titled "solutions for urban economies," a campaign source said April 9. The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Main Building and will be a "town hall" style event with the chance to pose questions to Clinton, the source said.

Earth Day sneaker toss

The Students Athletic Advisory Committee and the Community Alumni Network of Drexel University organized a sneaker free-throw event in the Quad April 8. Over 1,200 sneakers were donated and will be recycled into playground materials, according to CAN DU and SAAC.

Committee of Seventy calls on students to volunteer election day

The Committee of Seventy, a non-partisan organization that provides volunteers to help with the political elections, is working with the Center for Civic Engagement to recruit student volunteers for the primary and general elections this year. "Drexel volunteers are very important part of citywide programs to help the election run smooth," Zachary Stalberg, president and CEO of the Committee of Seventy, said.

The Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design at Drexel University played host to graphic designer Carin Goldberg April 10. Goldberg is well-known for her designs on media, from book covers for authors such as Kurt Vonnegut, to CD covers for Madonna and The Wallflowers.

Nutter, Janssen discuss 'green' cities

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Mayor John Janssen of Greensburg, Kan., met April 9 in the National Constitution Center to discuss sustainable cities and the economics of "green" development. The discussion was open to the public and moderated by Larry Platt, editor in chief of Philadelphia Magazine.

LeBow professor Kurokawa dies

Dr. Susumu "Sam" Kurokawa, an assistant professor of management in the LeBow College of Business, died April 6 of unknown causes. Kurokawa made contributions in research, innovation, entrepreneurship and technology during his time at the University, according to the LeBow web site.

Woman lies about subway attack A woman lied to police and SEPTA April 8 about being raped while in the subway system, according to an article in The Philadelphia Inquirer. The 20-year-old woman told police that she was grabbed from behind while on the SEPTA subway platform under City Hall, taken behind one of the beams and raped.

Emergency notification upgrade

"Green" lectures come to campus

Drexel University, in an initiative led by Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff Carl "Tobey" Oxholm III, is introducing a six-part lecture series about environmental sustainability at the University. Oxholm's office is spearheading efforts to make Drexel more environmentally-friendly, and put the lecture program together with the help of six committees of Drexel students and Vice President of University Facilities, Robert Francis.
