Forget about the 47-point loss to George Mason. Throw out the 24-point home loss to Creighton where fans got ejected and multiple technical fouls were distributed. Who cares about that 1-9 stretch at the beginning of January or that the team finished the season 7-18? Losing to a 1-7 Toledo team simply doesn't matter.
CAA Preview Just three years ago, the Colonial Athletic Association was just another mid-major. But George Mason's Cinderella Final Four run in 2006 and VCU's upset of ACC powerhouse Duke last season changed that perception. Now in 2008 with the conference tournament slated to begin this March 7 at Richmond Coliseum, it's time to preview and breakdown the 12-team field.
Members of the DAC Pack are often considered to be one of the best fan groups in the Colonial Athletic Association. These fans display great passion for basketball, attend enough games and show enough support for the players that they could potentially named as Drexel's sixth man.
The Drexel women's swimming & diving team set nine school records at the 2008 Colonial Athletic Association Championships. Kate Hynes established new meet records in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Hynes won those events for the third straight season and was named Most Outstanding Diver.
It may be hard to imagine that just a few years ago, the squash club didn't even exist. Now, the team is 35th in the country. Considering that in 2005 it was not a well known sport at Drexel, it is amazing to see the transformation the Drexel squash team has made.
Jessica Bill and Gwenna Johnson each scored four goals and Lauren LaBella stopped 10 shots leading the Drexel women's lacrosse team to a 15-12 victory over La Salle March 5 at McCarthy Stadium. With the win the Dragons improved to 5-1 on the season, including 4-0 away from home.
Andrew Chapman's goal unknotted a 1-1 tie in the third quarter and later Joe Wojciechowski scored what turned out to the game-winner in the fourth as the Drexel men's lacrosse team defeated Binghamton 3-2 March 1 in Vestal, N.Y. Bruce Bickford was strong in net, making 11 saves to earn the victory for the Dragons (3-1).
After a sloppy start on Senior Day, the Drexel Dragons (17-11, 12-5 CAA) relied on their underclassmen to lead them to a 62-58 come-from-behind-victory over the George Mason Patriots (9-19, 3-14 CAA). Senior forward Delise Johnson and guards Anora Suber, Narissa Suber and Stacy McCullough were honored prior to the game, which might have contributed to Drexel's sluggish start.
Senior Day brings out the best in every home team, much like it did when Drexel downed JMU this past week. For Hofstra, it was perhaps more special, as the school's most prolific scorer was saying goodbye to the hometown fans. The rest of the Pride responded with a sound defensive effort March 1 as they downed the Dragons 56-48 at the Mack Sports Complex.
