Student in critical condition

A SEPTA bus struck a female Drexel University pre-junior at 32nd and Market streets shortly after 10 a.m. Feb. 6. The student is in critical but stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, awaiting surgery for multiple fractures as of 7 p.

IRT tests Dragonfly upgrades in dorms

Drexel University officials have begun testing new a wireless network in two residence halls in a plan to eventually replace the entire DragonFly network, according to Ken Blackney, associate vice president for core technology in IRT. The test network, currently named "dflytest," is online in both the Caneris and Race Street residence halls as part of phase one of the University's plan to enhance the speed and range of wireless at Drexel.

CAB focuses on Spring Jam band

The Campus Activities Board is taking suggestions from students as they begin the process of deciding on a band to play at Spring Jam. The final decision will be made March 1, according to the Assistant Director of Traditions and the person in charge of organizing this year's Spring Jam, Anu Singh.

Drexel sponsors Super Tuesday Watch Party

The political boxing gloves came off when students and faculty participated in the Super Tuesday Watch Party held in Behrakis Grand Hall Feb. 7. The event was hosted by Drexel Votes 2008, the Drexel Democrats and the College Republicans. Over 100 students turned out for the four-and-a-half hour event to engage in political discussions, participate in a political quiz and monitor the incoming primary results.

Romney to step aside Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney suspended his campaign from the 2008 Presidential race Feb. 1. Romney was able to obtain a total of 294 delegates after the Super Tuesday primary, compared to Sen. John McCain's 707 delegates, according to the Associated Press.

Students face off in culinary contest

Two Drexel seniors battled for the winning title and $10,000 at the "San Pellegrino 2008 Almost Famous Chef Competition" held the Academic Bistro Feb. 6. The two seniors, Erik Silverman and Rachel Orner, were up against culinary students from Johnson and Wales-Charlotte as well as the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Cars double on Penn's campus

PhillyCarShare and the University of Pennsylvania entered into an unprecedented agreement in late January 2007 to expand the car-sharing non-profit's services on their campus. The service will expand to 40 cars around UPenn's campus, roughly double the number of cars before the partnership was made, according to Clayton Lane, a co-founder of PhillyCarShare and the Deputy Executive Director.
