It had all the makings of a blockbuster film - and Drexel fans even got ejected. Whether it was getting called for technical fouls, lane violations, multiple traveling violations, throwing the ball behind the backboard, having double dribbles or carrying the ball repeatedly, nothing seemed to go Drexel's way in one of the most bizarre games of year.
On the eve of one of the biggest sporting events to hit Drexel University this decade, elation filled the room in the Paul Peck Alumni Center. As a Ben Franklin impersonator greeted guests and the sound of drums and cymbals resonated through the room during the Dragon Dance, one thing was for certain - the road to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing will go through Drexel University in Philadelphia.
Every year around this time, people often wonder why Drexel doesn't have a varsity football team. College football fever is definitely in the air and Drexel is no exception. During this time of the year, pundits argue about the viability of a playoff system in major college football or how to fix the BCS.
Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in Stein Auditorium a panel of sports media experts, including former Philadelphia Eagle and CBS Broadcaster Tom Brookshire, Senior Director of News Programming for Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia Michelle Murray, and General Manager of 610 WIP Marc Rayfield gathered to discuss the past, present and future of the industry as part of Sports Media: A Multi-Billion Dollar Game.
Heading into the Eagles/Patriots game, one thing was certain for Philadelphia fans: They did not want Donovan McNabb spending his 31st birthday on the football field. They wanted AJ Feeley, a second string quarterback, to try and fill the void and take the Eagles back to the playoffs just like Jeff Garcia last season.
