Drexel University has been selected by the USA Table Tennis (USATT) Elite Athlete Committee to host the 2008 U.S. Olympic & National Team Trials for Table Tennis from January 10-13, 2008. The trials will be held at the Daskalakis Athletic Center and is expected to bring the best table tennis players from all over the country, based on their rankings provided by the USATT.
Drexel University men's basketball player Frank Elegar isn't taking the summer off. He recently competed for the U.S. Virgin Islands National Team at the Pan American Games. The Games, which took place July 25-29, were held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Elegar and the U.
July 2007 may go down as the worst month in sports history. Major League Baseball's month was dominated by its most hated player's inevitable take over of the sports' most hallowed record. Barry Bonds is so hated that perhaps the second largest story in the sport last month was Alex Rodriguez on pace to become the youngest player with 500 home runs, and the player most likely to supplant Bonds.
While Barry Bonds admired his 756th home run fall amidst the throngs of ravenous fans as they battled for the ball in the right center field bleachers, a piece of history, (and might I add, a big payday), he must've felt a sigh of relief. Regardless of whether or not Bonds is found guilty of taking steroids and other performance enhancing drugs, for that one moment as he trotted around the bases for the 756th time, he was king of the baseball world.
August 5 proved to be a historic day for Drexel Intramural Tennis. For the first time the seasonal event encompassed four different tournaments, including men's and women's singles, mixed doubles and men's doubles. Winning their respective tournaments were Ben McDorman (men's singles), Ashley Deise (women's singles), Paul Yuskevich and Deise (mixed doubles) and Dan Bell and Tom Frantzen (men's doubles).
