Mayoral candidate came to Drexel to talk about the city's postive side.

Michael Nutter, the Democratic mayoral candidate for Philadelphia, visited Drexel University on August 8 as part of the Pennoni College's Great Works Symposium. Nutter recalled memories from when he attended the University of Pennsylvania. The probable mayor of Philadelphia was slated to be a doctor, enrolled in UPenn's Pre-Med program, until he walked into his first chemistry class: "Once I saw that periodic table, I knew that I didn't want to become a doctor.

University making room for more retail on campus

With many construction projects looming on the horizon as part of the University's 'master plan,' students may be wondering what kind of business, if any, will be coming to the main campus. With the current retail and food options on and around campus limited, many students have to travel several blocks off campus to get what they need.

University Administrators are exploring the possibility of opening a 6,000-student campus in Placer County, Calif., outside Sacramento. President Constantine Papadakis recently met with Placer County community leaders and toured a 1,100-acre piece of land west of Roseville where a 600-acre university is proposed.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) filed 16 copyright infringement lawsuits against Drexel University network users Aug. 9 on behalf of major record companies, according to an RIAA press release. Initially, the RIAA announced a pre-litigation period on March 3, and the lawsuits announced Aug.

SEPTA commuter pass available soon

Starting August 15, the new SEPTA CommPass will be available to Drexel students. The SEPTA discount pass will be introduced at an event on Wednesday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Drexel Dragon statue at the intersection of 33 and Market Streets, near the Korman Center.

Cincinnati's Ferrara brought in to assess Drexel Public Safety

Drexel has selected University of Cincinnati public safety director Gene Ferrara as a consultant to evaluate the University's own public safety department. Ferrara was hired in mid-June this year and the cost of his services has been less than $4,000, according to Senior Vice President Jim Tucker.

Fraternity returns to campus

Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity is moving back to 3405 Powelton Avenue with a lot to look forward to this fall. Drexel Greek Relations Board and the Inter-Fraternal Council both unanimously approved the fraternity's return this September. Pi Kappa Phi has been planning and anticipating their return to campus and have created what they call a "Capital Campaign".

Choi exits after seven years as CoE dean

After seven years as associate dean for research and graduate studies at Drexel, Professor Mun Young Choi will be leaving this winter to head the School of Engineering at the University of Connecticut as their new dean. Choi's career began with an undergraduate education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, after which he earned his doctorate in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton University.
