Another May arrives, and it's time for the 2007 Spring Jam. Of course, going to Drexel means settling for a middle of the road, B-rate, mildly popular band. In fact, the band has always been a sideshow. The Campus Activities Board can do a great job making an enjoyable experience - oodles of free food, free stuff, and random, quirky arts and crafts projects, but they've yet to pick a successful band in recent memory.
Who are the progressives and who are the conservatives? We know the American conservative and progressive camps diverge on matters much more fundamental than political parties or specific policies. To find out, we must apply the test: whose ideas of progress; what to conserve? They differ in how they view social change, human nature and the root of society.
The morning of Thursday, April 12 saw Cho Seung-Hui, the Virginia Tech murderer, on the cover of the always-tasteful Daily News. Here was the man who killed 32 people facing me with a look of hate in his eyes pointing the barrel of the gun. Still shaken by the tragedy that Monday, I became flush with rage, disgust and disappointment at my media peers.
Everyone knows what space aliens look like. They're small, they've got big, light bulb-shaped heads with big, black, almond-shaped eyes. Incorrect! UFO abductees report a fairly wide variation in the shapes, sizes, colors and configurations of monsters from beyond the stars.
This past weekend, I spent some time at Oberlin College as a prospective student. Besides the legal emergency that kept me there for two days longer than I had planned and pissed me off more than that time I was tricked into attending a Klan meeting that didn't have tasty refreshments, it was a very enjoyable trip.
