Penn student shoots at Drexel student's home

A shooting incident involving a Drexel student and a University of Pennsylvania student occurred Jan. 31 at 4339 Pine Street at 12:30 p.m. The victim has been identified as a 22 year-old male Indian student from Drexel, and the police have arrested an Asian male student from UPenn.

City bans bongs, pipes to regulate drug use

Philadelphia Mayor John Street signed a law tightening regulations on drug paraphernalia Jan. 30 after the City Council unanimously ratified the bill. The "Blunt Ban" prohibits the selling of any cigarette, cigar, tiparillo, cigarillo or other tobacco products, singly or in packages of fewer than three in Philadelphia convenience stores.

There are new developments in the story about the Drexel student's baby who was found dead Jan. 22 in Upper Darby. "We're pretty certain we know when and where the baby was born, and who put the baby in the trunk of the car," said Upper Darby Police Chief Michael Chitwood.

A new building complex at 39th and Walnut streets and a new center for advanced medicine are being developed, leading to the relocation of businesses that Drexel students may have used.

Added construction frustrates students

Over the winter break, the University responded to a leak in the steam lines that supply Kelly Hall, Van Rensselaer Hall and Ross Commons. The old pipes failed in several places and caused steam to escape. An emergency repair has been started to restore the broken pipes.

Engineer calls Darwin 'vacuous'

On Jan. 24, Campus Crusade for Christ organized "An Engineer Looks at Darwinism and Intelligent Design" at the Bossone Auditorium. At the event, speaker Mark Lamontia presented his views as a systems engineer on the theory of Intelligent Design. Lamontia began his presentation by stating that "engineers design things" and that animals look designed though an engineer's lens.
