The Board of Trustees of the College of Medicine announced May 11 that Richard Homan was appointed the College's new dean and senior vice president for Health Affairs, following a national search during the 2004-05 academic year. Homan, currently the dean of the School of Medicine and vice president for Clinical Affairs at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, will replace Interim Dean Joseph Bloom Sept.
Chaka Fattah, the Democratic representative from Pennsylvania, visited the University on behalf of the Lebow College of Business and the Public Policy Forum to address the issue of education in lower-income neighborhoods. Fattah promoted his GEAR UP program and a Student Bill of Rights during his speech.
The University announced that Catherine DeAngelis, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association, and Linda Rhodes, former Secretary of Aging for the State of Pennsylvania, will speak at the 2005 Health Sciences Commencement May 20 at the Kimmel Center.

In a special meeting of Faculty Senate May 10, the representative body approved and endorsed the application to the Pa. Department of Education for authority to grant three new terminal degrees and start a College of Law. After statements by various members of the University-wide Advisory Committee facilitating the new College of Law, the meeting was open to questions from faculty concerning the procedures, research and methods that would be required for the new college to be successful.

Senior Vice President for Student Life Anthony Caneris hosted his biannual student luncheon May 10 in the University Club an an opportunity for students to address significant issues of concern. Caneris oversees everything from Student Life to Facilities Management to Public Safety and the luncheon doubled as a forum to let Caneris and other administrators inform students of upcoming projects and other activities affecting the University.
In response to what former Vice Provost Jacques Catudal called an "epidemic of cheating," the Undergraduate Student Government Association reissued its Statement of Honor to student leaders in an effort to garner support against the practice. USGA College of Engineering Senator Edward Asbury said the Statement of Honor was "a simple yet clear statement that establishes Drexel as an institution of high moral and ethical standards.
