After a year of searching, we now have a Provost. We were beginning to think that Interim Provost Ali Houshmand would be in office until his natural death, but the search has given us Stephen Director. The Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan is the product of a search that had two different groups of candidates, one of which included Houshmand.
There was a time, not too long ago, on a college campus not too far away, when the factual accuracy of an editorial submission to the Triangle was verified before print. The Rectangle is a special issue. The Ed-Op section of the newspaper is one of the highlights of the satirical paper. In the past, it has included commentaries on outrageous topics such as the advocation of driving under the influence of alcohol, a commentary from the Gerber baby, Bostonians being confused by Philadelphia accents and the like.

When we as an organization failed to distribute our papers on two occasions, I was embarrassed, especially when I had to explain it to people who asked me about it.
Ibelieve Sumeet Patel's ("Students' apartments condemned," The Triangle p.1, Jan. 28, 2005) did a great job reporting on behalf of student interests by describing the substandard living conditions found at 3400 Lancaster Avenue which caused these buildings to receive "Cease Operation" orders and tenants to be temporarily evicted.

The world learned of the death of Pope John Paul II on Saturday, April 2. Born Karol Józef Wojtyla in Poland in 1920, John Paul II became the first non-Italian Pope in 455 years. Ascending to the position as Bishop of Rome in 1978, he was the most traveled Pope ever, visiting 129 countries during his 26 year reign.
