The Drexel e-mail system, which went down at 6:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27, is now operational, after partial restoration Aug 29. According to Drexel's network status web site, backup was in progress during the crash and was lost.
The University televised its sponsorship of NBC 10's coverage of the XXVIII Olympiad at the opening ceremonies in Athens Aug. 13. The move came just a month after the announced 4.5 percent tuition increase set for the fall 2004 term. Many students, who had questioned the importance of the increase in light of recent layoffs and budget freezes, were disappointed by the University's decision.
The University's plan to use the 32nd and Powelton Avenue lot as the construction site of a 300-unit townhouse is being thwarted by members of the Powelton Village community. National Lining Services owned the lot and the Consolidated Laundry Building, a commercial laundry site, which was located there since the early 1900s.
The Times of India allegedly made false statements about University student and teaching assistant Adrish Ganguly in its article "'Deserter' son spoils father's case for bail" Aug. 7. The Times of India reported that Ganguly was married to Tanupriya Guha Roy Dec.
The Great Works symposium series continues this fall with the next installment, "A Sustainable Earth." The series aims to look at a "great work" through an interdisciplinary approach. The upcoming series of lectures will include three professors from the University: Robert Brulle, Roger McCain and Susan Kilham.

A Drexel Shuttle on its normal route traveling through Center City Philadelphia. The shuttle service has continued service through the summer months uniterrupted.
The Triangle elected Chirag Desai as its new editor-in-chief August 9. Desai defeated Online Manager Tom Holzerman for the position in a 10-8 decision. Eligible voters in the election are defined by The Triangle's constitution, and consist of contributing staff.
Interim Provost Ali Houshmand sent a letter to students in July, announcing a 4.5 percent tuition increase. ("Tuition set to increase 4.5 percent in fall term," The Triangle, July 23, Page One). Students have mixed views, but some agree with Drexel's stance on increasing tuition.
